The third annual Build My Future Construction Showcase is Wednesday, April 17, 9 am to 2 pm, at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E*Plex, 3001 N. Grant Ave. The nationally recognized event is organized by the Build My Future Collaborative, comprised of several partners including the Ozark Region Workforce Development Board, City of Springfield, Home Builders Association and Springfield Contractors Association.

This year’s event will be one of the largest of its kind with more than 2,700 high school students registered, representing nearly 100 local area high schools. The morning will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 am with local dignitaries, exhibitors, volunteers and sponsors.

“We have over 60 exhibitors representing all aspects of the skilled-trades industry,” said Mary Ann Rojas, Director of Workforce Development for the City of Springfield. Students will have the opportunity to learn about careers in skilled trades through hands-on exhibits showcasing industries such as construction, engineering, bricklaying, HVAC, plumbing, welding, flooring, architecture and more, Rojas said.

Since it’s inception in 2017, Build My Future events have been hosted in eight states including other parts of Missouri. In 2018, the National Association of Workforce Boards awarded Springfield’s Build My Future Collaborative with the W.O. Lawton Business Leadership Award. This award is given annually to a single workforce board in the United States.
