SPD to Conduct Cinco de Mayo Saturation Patrol
Officers of the Springfield Police Department will conduct a saturation patrol for impaired drivers this Saturday evening, May 4th. Extra officers, funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation, will pro-actively seek out drivers who make the decision to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both.
These drivers will face arrest, incarceration and the subsequent financial impact of their decisions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every day 29 people in the United States die in a crash caused by an impaired driver. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes alone is over 40 billion dollars.
