Registration Deadline Extended for Free Environmental Jobs Training
The Missouri Job Center has extended the registration deadline until Friday, June 21, for the Green for Greene program, a free training in which participants earn certifications for environmental-related careers. Green for Greene is funded by a $200,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. Classes begin July 5, 2019 and are held daily from 8 am to 5 pm.
Through the course of the five-week training, participants gain 13 certifications needed for environmental careers. Those certifications include OSHA 10, OSHA Hazwoper, Trenching & Excavation, Confined Space, Lead Renovation Repair & Paint, Lead Abatement, Mold Abatement, Asbestos Handler, Forklift Driver, Silica, Flagger, Bloodborne Pathogens and First Aid/CPR.
“Currently we’re recruiting 18 candidates for this cohort,” said Wendy Graves, Program Manager for Green for Greene. “In past classes, Green for Greene participants have earned the needed certifications and most graduates have gained employment in environmental-related fields with averaging wages of $15 or more an hour,” she said. The program has been very successful in providing new opportunities and career paths for participants, as well as providing qualified job candidates to local employers, Graves added.
Those interested in applying for the program visit www.springfieldmo.gov/greenforgreene. You must be 18 or older to apply. Deadline to apply for the July cohort is June 21. For more information, contact Katherine Trombetta at 417-841-3389 or [email protected].
