The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is encouraging you to tie those laces and hit the pavement this October during the citywide Move Your Shoes Walking Challenge. The annual event combines physical activity with a little bit of healthy competition.
Groups of two or more representing worksites or community organizations—like church groups, families, friends or clubs—can compete for a traveling trophy and bragging rights during the month-long competition.
It’s as simple as recruiting team members, signing up and tracking steps through the month of October. The worksite and community team that averages the most miles per person will win the challenge!
The community event is an effort to encourage individuals to make small changes toward better health. Walking is a simple way to improve your health. Just 30 minutes of walking three times a week has been shown to burn calories, lower your blood sugar, improve immunity and increase life span.
Last year, participants walked 172,103 miles during the challenge. Glanbia Nutritionals and the Saheli Team took home bragging rights last year—will your team be next?
