FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The public should expect a periodic reduction in the number of parking stalls available in the downtown College Station Car Park beginning Monday, Oct. 14 as City contractors begin general waterproofing maintenance to the parking deck.
Completed in 2008, the Car Park is due for routine waterproofing of the structure. The maintenance project will consist of renovating the water barrier on the lower levels of the structure that act as a roof to the businesses below, resealing the pavement panel joints and other general repairs throughout the structure.
Portions of the garage will be closed in various phases with entering and exiting traffic routed around affected areas accordingly.
- Phase one: Beginning Monday, Oct. 14, the west half of the 2nd floor will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for approximately 3-4 weeks, impacting approximately 100 parking spaces.
- Phase two: Following completion of phase one (weather permitting), the east half of the 2nd floor will be closed for approximately 3 weeks.
- Phase three: Maintenance and repairs to the upper floors will then continue as weather allows.
“These sealing procedures and products are very sensitive to weather and temperature conditions,” explains Kirk Juranas, Assistant Director of Public Works. “For this reason, we planned the project in multiple phases knowing that we will most likely have to stop and start.”
The project is expected to be complete by early summer, 2020.
