Build My Future Branches Out Into Healthcare Field
The inaugural Build My Future Healthcare Career Expo for high school students is Tuesday, October 22, 9 am to 2 pm, at Mercy Hospital in the McAuley Conference Center. This first-year event is a partnership between the Workforce Development Board, the Missouri Job Center, the City of Springfield and the Missouri Hospital Association.
“This career expo features 22 exhibitors, with an anticipated attendance of nearly 600 area high school students; all with an interest in possibly pursuing a career in the healthcare industry,” said Alexa Mason, an event organizer with the Missouri Job Center. In addition to exhibitors, students will get to see an ambulance up close and go on tours of several departments at Mercy, Mason said.
“Students will be able to sign up for guided tours of the imaging department, lab, morgue, emergency room and pharmacy. We hope this event will spark students’ interest in healthcare careers and develop a pipeline of talent for the future to help meet worker shortages in the healthcare field,” said Ericka Combs, Project Coordinator for the Aspire Youth Program at the Missouri Job Center.
Event organizers hope to see this become an annual event much like it’s sister event, Build My Future Construction Expo, held each year in the spring. For more information, contact communications coordinator Katherine Trombetta at 417-841-3389 or [email protected].
