May sales tax revenues down 11.6% compared to May 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Springfield’s May sales tax revenues from the Missouri Department of Revenue are down 11.6%, or $397,184, compared to May 2018. The check was $3,028,591, compared to the May 2018 revenue check in the amount of $3,425,775. On a year-to-date basis, sales tax revenues are up 2%, or about $851,000 compared with the same time frame in 2018.

Compared to budget, revenues are up just over 1% this month and about 2% year to date.

The check reflects sales processed by the state in April from transactions made primarily in March.

The City heavily relies on sales tax revenues as its main source of revenue to fund vital services, such as police and fire operations. In Springfield, approximately 56 percent of revenue comes from sales tax and use tax.
