Springfield Mayor Ken McClure noted the strong economy in Springfield, recognized public servants and announced plans for community-wide planning and land use at the annual State of the City Address held this morning during the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Springfield! program at Evangel University.
The City of Springfield produces the broadcast of the 30-minute speech, which can be watched live every year in the following ways:

The goal of the annual address is to update the community on the mayor’s current viewpoint on the local economy, workforce, culture and more. Mayor McClure also takes this opportunity to recognize the people, organizations and agencies that have helped lift Springfield up, as well as acknowledge and address community challenges.
“We must cultivate and feel a sense of pride in this place we call home – building on our assets, like the beauty of our outdoors here and our higher education and health care partners. We must invest in the community and improve it,” McClure said toward the end of the address.
He concluded the address with a quote from Herb Caen, a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist who wrote daily columns of local goings-on, social and political happenings, painful puns and offbeat anecdotes that appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle for almost 60 years:
“A city is not gauged by its length and width, but by the broadness of its vision and the height of its dreams.”
