City seeks candidates for Building Trades Examination & Certification Board

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Springfield is seeking qualified candidates for the Building Trades Examination & Certification Board. The City Manager-appointed board administers the licensing of the members of various building crafts or trades. Members serve three-year terms and meetings are held at 5:30 p.m., the first Thursday of the month in the first floor conference room of the Busch Municipal Building, 840 N. Boonville.

To apply, visit springfieldmo.gov or download and fill out the online form and return it to the City Clerk’s office at the Busch Municipal Building, 840 Boonville.

Board of Public Utilities
Has the power and duty to take charge of and exercise control over any public utility owned or operated by or hereafter acquired by the City. Applicants for this board must meet a two-year residency requirement. The Board has one vacancy coming available in December. Applications for the upcoming vacancy will be accepted by the City Clerk until the close of business on Oct. 25, 2019.

Springfield - Greene County Park Board
Operates and maintains more than 100 park sites, trails and facilities in Springfield and unincorporated Greene County, ranging from neighborhood playgrounds to multi-use recreation centers. The system includes three golf courses, three family centers, a zoo, a farm park, a botanical center, several sports/athletic complexes, two indoor aquatic centers, six outdoor swimming pools, multiple School-Park sites and more than 100 miles of recreational trails.

Citizens Advisory Committee For Community Development
Provides a forum for public review and comment on the City’s annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.

Citizens’ Tax Oversight Committee
Review and monitor the collection of the 1/4-cent Capital Improvements Sales Tax revenues, the 1/8-cent Transportation Sales Tax revenues, the 3/4-cent Police and Fire Fighters Pension Fund Sales Tax revenues, the Hotel/Motel Tax revenues, and the Level Property Tax revenues. In addition the committee may evaluate any proposed reduction or enhancement to pension benefits before presentation to City Council.

Landmarks Board
Advises City Council, City Planning and Zoning Commission, the Park Board and the City Manager relating to the identification, protection, retention and preservation of historic sites in the City of Springfield. The Board is currently seeking a Member-At-Large and a Walnut Street Representative.

Mayor’s Commission On Human Rights & Community Relations
Foster mutual understanding and respect among all racial, religious and ethnic groups of the City and investigates discrimination complaints.

The Board is currently seeking four additional members. They are seeking members with experience with housing and real estate, media, legal expertise, minority communities, or disability communities.

Advises the Traffic Engineer, Chief of Police, City Manager and City Council of ways and means for improving traffic conditions and/or enforcement of traffic regulations.

Not-for-profit corporation has been formed to assist in providing alternative means to finance various City projects.

Tree City USA Citizen Advisory Committee

Committee will advise City Council and appropriate City Departments regarding the city’s trees and the community’s urban forest and assist in continuing to qualify Springfield as a Tree City USA community. The Committee is currently seeking members to fill an Ozarks Greenways seat, a Neighborhood Association seat, and a Development Community seat.

Board Of Adjustment
Has authority to hear appeals, decide district boundaries, allow exceptions, and grant variances of the Zoning Ordinance relating to land improvements, in accordance with guidelines established by the Zoning Ordinance.

The membership of all boards, commissions, and committees are restricted to a limited amount of consecutive service. If where you would like to serve is not listed, please feel free to apply anyway and select all the places you would be willing to volunteer. As new positions become available and current members are retired, your application will be included in the review and selection process for upcoming appointees.
