City Hall to close temporarily; Monday’s City Council meeting postponed


The City of Springfield’s Busch Municipal Building will temporary close to the public, between 5 p.m. March 20 and midnight, April 1. City Manager Jason Gage made the decision in accordance with CDC and Springfield-Greene County Health Department guidance, federal recommendations and a local emergency declaration related to efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). City departments occupying the Busch Municipal Building will continue to effectively provide public services through means, other than in-person interaction. 

“This was not an easy decision and I appreciate the dedication and flexibility of our City staff and believe that this transition is necessary for the safety of both the public and our employees at this time,” Gage said.

Citizens are being asked to continue to contact City offices through phone, e-mail and online interaction.

Please consider the following alternative methods for your needs at the Busch Municipal Building:

Permits and Licensing

Building Development Services is offering a temporary alternative method for obtaining permits. Please email A permitting representative will contact you during the processing of your permit. Any further information will be obtained at that time, along with payment information. Credit Cards are the only accepted method of payment. As always, permits and inspections can be requested via eCity at

Upcoming Council Meeting Cancelled

The City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23 has been cancelled and it is anticipated that City Council will reconvene at its regularly scheduled meeting April 6. If need arises to meet before that date, a special City Council meeting may be called. Staff is dedicated to keeping the public informed of any and all changes. One of the primary goals at this time is to fully ensure we can accommodate public interaction during meetings as expected by our citizenry and as required by City Charter, while balancing public safety.

“Due to current situation, we believe that continuing to have our public meetings in the traditional way creates unnecessary health risks to Council members, City staff and to the general public,” Gage said. Upcoming meetings will combine video live streaming and broadcasting as well as videoconferencing capabilities.
