Springfieldians show creativity in “Wear a Mask” video competition

Five videos were selected as finalists from a pool of 25 submissions in the Mayor’s "Wear a Mask" video contest. The contest invited community members to submit videos on why it’s necessary to wear a mask to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. The winning video will be used as a public service announcement (PSA) submitted to air on Springfield television stations.

Staff from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department and the City of Springfield’s Department Public Information & Civic Engagement selected the five finalists and posted them on the City’s website for people to vote on their favorite. The video with the highest amount of votes, (a weighted score) combined with the highest number of shares and likes from the City’s Facebook page will be deemed the grand prize winner. It is possible for a non-finalist video to still compete, depending on social media response.

The finalists include videos by Nick Sibley, Patti Crump Lemons, Curt Bussen and I Love Springfield, Mo. To view each video and vote, visit: https://www.springfieldmo.gov/5248/Masking-PSA-Contest-Entries. After viewing the videos, click the “Please Vote” link when you’re ready to vote.

“Each one of us keeps the other safe — every person has a responsibility here, social responsibility. And that’s what wearing a mask is all about,” said Mayor Ken McClure. “The right thing to do is to wear a mask because it’s not about you, it’s about my health and the health of our essential workers. You wear a mask to protect me, I wear a mask to protect you.”
