FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Springfield encourages interested citizens to attend an informational open house 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 3 at Drury on C-Street (233 E. Commercial Street) to provide input on several upcoming enhancement projects utilizing Commercial Street Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view final designs for the planned enhancement of two district pedestrian alleyways and a public parking lot. The public will also be asked to provide input on design elements for new Commercial Street entryway signage.
The Dr. Tickle Alleyway, located between Campbell Avenue and Boonville Avenue, and the C-Street Market Alleyway, between Robberson Avenue and Jefferson Avenue, as well as the public parking lot located at Blaine Street and Jefferson Avenue, were previously selected by Commercial Street residents and business owners for improvements using C-Street Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds. Preliminary designs were presented to the public at an Open House in September, 2019. The estimated cost for the project is $400,000. Construction is anticipated to take place this summer.
In December 2019, City Council approved the allocation of $150,000 of Commercial Street TIF funding toward a second enhancement project to install entryway signs within the TIF district.
“We need guidance from C-Street on what this new signage should look like,” says Economic Development Director Sarah Kerner. “Input on construction style, materials and lighting will all be used to create design concepts that will be brought back to the community for further discussion.”
There will be no formal presentation at this event. Attendees are encouraged to come and go as their schedules allow. Digital polling will be conducted as part of the input process. Wi-fi enabled devices are encouraged, but not required to participate.
