Local musician earns most points in Mayor’s video contest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A video with a catchy jingle has received the most votes in a video creation contest sponsored by Springfield Mayor Ken McClure. “If You Don’t Wear a Mask, It Will Put You in a Casket” by Nick Sibley, was the clear winner, receiving 356 votes, 54.4% of the vote cast on the City’s website.

The video features illustrations of people and places around Springfield and features a line, “There’s something contagious in the air…love.”

The remaining four finalists and the voting results were as follows:

Entry #17. Even Tough Guys Do It - Curt Bussen (134 responses, 20.5%)
Entry #23. I Love Springfield MO (83 responses, 12.7%)
Entry #25. It’s No Wonder We’re Extinct 2 - Patti Lemons (59 responses, 9.0%)
Entry #6. It’s No Wonder We’re Extinct - Patti Lemons (28 responses, 4.3%)

“Each one of us keeps the other safe — every person has a responsibility here, social responsibility. And that’s what wearing a mask is all about,” said Mayor Ken McClure. “The right thing to do is to wear a mask because it’s not about you, it’s about my health and the health of our essential workers. You wear a mask to protect me, I wear a mask to protect you.”

Each video promotes the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s recommended measure of wearing a mask in public. Sibley’s winning video will be used as a public service announcement (PSA) submitted to air on Springfield television stations and shared on the City’s social media sites and other communication channels.
