Boyd IB World School creates storywalk on Historic C-Street

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Boyd International Baccalaureate World School and Commercial Club of Springfield invite the community to explore how artists transform neighborhoods through a self-guided StoryWalk. Twelve C-Street storefronts will feature pages in their front windows from the book, Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood, by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell in order to both educate and celebrate how important art is to building community and the human experience.

The StoryWalk will remain as a highlight to the “C-Street Stroll,” one of Historic Commercial Street’s favorite activities, through Thursday, March 25.

Naturally, masks and social distancing are required during the Storywalk. Read the pages in order by following this sequence:

1) Van Gogh’s Eeterie (334 East)

2) Footbridge Trading Co. (320 East)

3} Pizza House (312 East)

4) Cafe Cusco (234 East)

5) Savoy Ballroom (224 East)

6) The Artisan’s Oven (206 East)

7) Historic Firehouse No2 (101 East)

8) Ms Gilmore’s Vintage Suitcase & Tearoom (211 East)

9) Big Momma’s Coffee & Espresso Bar (217 East)

10) Blu Styles Barber Shop (223 East)

11) Wellspring School of Allied Health (229 East)

12) MosaicaRose Art Studio (305 East)

The timing of this event is especially appropriate as Commercial Club is in the process of creating a self-guided walking tour of its sculpture, mural and expanding art collection, most recently with the completion of two brand new 100' long mosaic "Alley Gallery" installations. The alleyway between Footbridge Trading Company and Pizza House is a great example of a StoryWalk in and of itself; be sure to view it from Commercial Street to Blaine Lane. Also, pay attention to the public art that already graces this eclectic, historic C-Street neighborhood. Cheryl Goetz, Learning Coach, Boyd Elementary says “I often encourage teachers to consider walking field trips. I love the connections they provide for our students and their families and the community. And now that we will be north of Division, I hope to see these partnerships increase even more up here on Historic C-Street.” C-Streeters couldn’t agree more.
