Brookside Drive between Kings and Green avenues to close April 7 through fall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brookside Drive between Kings and Green avenues will close for approximately seven months beginning Wednesday, April 7 for roadway and sanitary sewer construction associated with the Fassnight Creek Stormwater Improvement Project at the Springfield Art Museum. The closure will remain in place for the duration of the project, which is estimated to wrap up this fall.

A portion of the roadway between Green Avenue and Linwood Circle will remain open to local traffic only. Perry Tennis Courts will remain open with access to the parking lot maintained.

Access to the Springfield Art Museum will be maintained via Green Avenue to Bennett Street.

As part of the museum’s master plan, the project involves the restoration of Fassnight Creek along Brookside Drive between Green and Kings avenues. The goal of the project is to restore the creek to a naturalized channel, reducing the risk of flooding to the art museum and surrounding residential properties and for the benefit of flood mitigation, water quality and the creation of habitat for native birds and pollinators. The project also includes the relocation of sanitary sewer lines and realignment of portions of Brookside Drive to allow for expansion of the creek channel.
