FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield Environmental Services invites the public to celebrate Earth Day 2021 with a special “EnviroFlick” movie series virtual screening of “The Clean Bin Project,” available for viewing April 15-21. The week of movie watching will culminate in a virtual Community Conversation event with film creator Jen Rustemeyer, 7-8 p.m., Thursday, April 22.
“The Clean Bin Project” is a feature documentary film about a regular couple and their quest to answer the question "is it possible to live completely waste free?" Described as “Super Size Me” meets “An Inconvenient Truth,” the film follows partners Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin as they go head-to-head in a battle to see who can produce the least landfill garbage in an entire year.
"We had watched a lot of environmental films that were really informative but we always felt so overwhelmed and deflated at the end of them," explains Baldwin, who directed the film. "We wanted to make a movie that showed how choosing to do just one thing, like reducing your trash, can be not only manageable, but really empowering and fun."
“We are very excited to welcome Jen Rustemeyer, maker of this film, to speak with us as a community about her experiences,” says Sustainability and Market Development Coordinator Ashley Krug. “Jen is motivating and full of tips and tricks to help reduce waste and rethink how we live our everyday lives.”
“The Clean Bin Project” will be available for in-home viewing anytime April 15-21. Participants are encouraged to complete an online registration form. After signing up, a followup email will be sent with a link to the movie and a Zoom link to participate in the Community Conversation on April 22. There is no charge to participate.
The film is appropriate for families and individuals of all ages. Learn more and watch the trailer at http://www.cleanbinmovie.com/trailer/. The screening is another edition of Environmental Service’s “EnviroFlick” film series aimed at providing education and stimulating community discussion surrounding environmental topics.
