Public vaccination opportunities: Week of June 28-July 4

news flash - vaccine update

The highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant continues to spread in our community, particularly among younger individuals who are not fully vaccinated. Between June 18-24, more than 750 new cases were reported among Greene County residents and the average age of new infections was 38.5.

As of Friday, June 25, the seven-day rolling average for new cases was 108 – a 26% increase over the past week. Since January, 93% of positive cases interviewed were not fully vaccinated. As of Friday, 168 individuals were being treated for COVID-19 at Springfield hospitals.

Local doctors and the healthcare community urge everyone 12 and older to get vaccinated as soon as possible -- including those who have previously tested positive for COVID-19.

“The Delta variant is causing younger people with no underlying health conditions to be hospitalized,” said Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nancy Yoon. “Our community should be very concerned about this trend, especially those who are not vaccinated. This variant has caused many individuals to experience significant illness and does not discriminate based on age, gender, race or state of health. The best way to defend ourselves against the Delta variant is by getting vaccinated.”
