City Manager Jason Gage has selected Sally Payne to permanently fill the role of Director of Workforce Development for the City of Springfield. She has served as Interim Director since December 2019. Payne joined the City in 2008 as an accounting supervisor before being promoted to fiscal administrator and then assistant director of Workforce Development.

“Sally has done a great job leading our workforce development efforts during a very challenging time when demand for jobs and people to serve in those jobs is very high. We are grateful for her service and her creative and collaborative approach to working with our many partners in this arena. Workforce development is among the City’s highest priorities,” said Jason Gage, City Manager

“I want to thank City management for their support during my interim tenure and the opportunity to keep moving the Workforce Development Department forward. During these challenging times, I believe in innovative, strategic initiatives and programs to meet the needs of job seekers and businesses in this ever-changing economy,” Payne said. “I also want to thank the incredible staff for their support and hard work,” she added.

The Department of Workforce Development, housed at the Missouri Job Center, provides resources and tools to assist job seekers in obtaining gainful employment. The Job Center also offers training programs to qualifying individuals in the areas of healthcare, IT, manufacturing, construction, and transportation/logistics.

Recently the department was awarded a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to prepare 400 justice involved individuals for the workforce as they are preparing to leave the state prison system and relocate back to southern Missouri.
