The Springfield-Greene County Health Department has expanded the Find a Vaccine map on Vaccine417.com to help individuals in our community find a flu vaccine. This addition will make finding flu vaccination opportunities easier and encourage those seeking COVID-19 vaccine doses and boosters to also get vaccinated against the flu.
Flu is more commonly detected in the fall and winter, with flu activity typically peaking between December and February. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends, with few exceptions, that everyone six months and older get a flu vaccine by the end of October to help prevent sickness, reduce the change of severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
“With the potential for COVID-19 to surge in our community again this winter, getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu is critical,” said Director of Health Katie Towns. “These life-saving vaccines will help reduce the spread of the viruses and prevent our hospitals from being overwhelmed with patients suffering from severe illness from either disease.” According to the CDC, patients may receive both a flu shot and COVID vaccine at the same time, if the provider offers both.
The Health Department offers flu vaccines to those who are uninsured or underinsured. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 417-864-1658. The Find a Vaccine map and more information on the flu and COVID-19 can be found at vaccine417.com. Anyone with questions about how to use the interactive map or a vaccine event can contact the COVID-19 Call Center at (417) 874-1211 or email [email protected].
Media may contact the Health Department PIO Team by call or text at 417-380-2556 or email at [email protected].
