Department of Workforce Development to Apply for Good Jobs Challenge Grant
Springfield City Council approved a measure allowing the Department of Workforce Development to apply for the American Rescue Plan Good Jobs Challenge Grant at last night’s Council Meeting.
Director of Workforce Development Sally Payne presented the request to apply for $17.5 million from the Economic Development Administration to implement projects needed to provide workforce training and connect citizens to quality jobs including wraparound services.
“Through this funding opportunity, the Department of Workforce Development will follow EDA’s efforts to reach historically underserved populations and areas,” Payne said. “We will lead regional partnerships that will promote economic growth and job training in the areas of health care, early childcare development with an entrepreneurial component, and the transportation industry,” she said.
“We are applying for this grant because it will provide skill training and connect unemployed or underemployed workers to better opportunities and higher paying jobs,” Payne added.
