Environmental Services to celebrate Earth Day with virtual screening of “2040: The Regeneration”

2040 Posts_FBIn celebration of Earth Day 2022, Springfield Environmental Services invites adults and families alike to enjoy a special “EnviroFlick” movie series virtual screening of “2040: The Regeneration,” available for at-home viewing April 15 - 24.

Motivated by his 4-year-old daughter and concern for the planet she will inherit, “2040” director Damon Gameau embarks on a global journey to meet innovators and changemakers to discover what the future of the planet could look like by the year 2040 if humanity embraced the best solutions available and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream.

Guided by the voices of 100 child interviewees who describe the kind of world they would like to see by the year 2040, Damon draws on minds from around the world to focus on climate, economics, technology, civil society, education, agriculture and sustainability to conjure a positive portrait of what “could be” instead of the negative future so often presented.

“We love the positive and motivating vibe of this documentary,” explains Environmental Services Education Outreach Coordinator Laurie Davis. “There are so many good stories of innovation, progress and hope for change that we can all learn more about and help support to move our planet forward in environmental stewardship.”

“2040: The Regeneration” will be available for in-home viewing anytime April 15-24. Participants are encouraged to complete an online registration form. After signing up, a followup email will be sent with a link to view the movie. There is no charge to participate.

“Alongside the movie screening, we also want to hear from Springfieldians about what they would like to see by the year 2040,” says Davis. “Maybe there are local innovations or aspirations our community could use to make our city and region better.”

Environmental Services will encourage residents to share their vision of what the planet could look like via their facebook page. Visit to follow the discussion and chime in.

“2040: The Regeneration” is appropriate for families and individuals of all ages.
