More than 2,600 High School Students to Attend Construction Showcase
More than 2,600 area high school students are set to attend Build My Future Construction Showcase on Wednesday, after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E-Plex. A total of 75 hands-on exhibits will be available for 80 schools and programs attending from a 24-county area.
During the event, students will be able to test drive a variety of careers in the construction and skilled trades industries including all aspects of design, engineering, labor and more. There is an increased urgency for workers across all industries which is why events such as Build My Future are needed.
On April 13, Build My Future events will be held in three states: Arkansas, Iowa, and Missouri. The Build My Future model has been replicated in multiple cities in Missouri as well as in Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Build My Future is a 501(c) organization that is a collaborative effort between the City of Springfield Department of Workforce Development/Missouri Job Center, Springfield Contractors Association, the Home Builders Association, the Builders Association, Associated General Contractors of Missouri, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Department of Transportation and several private companies, educational institutions and local labor unions including the Heavy Laborers Local 663 and the Carpenters Local 987.
