Department of Workforce Development Receives $3 Million DOL Grant for Apprenticeships
The City’s Department of Workforce Development, located at the Missouri Job Center, has been awarded a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor as part of the Apprenticeship Building America grants to strengthen and modernize Registered Apprenticeship programs. The Department was one of 30 organizations nationwide and the only one in Missouri to be awarded this grant funding.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant and grateful for the DOL’s support of the work we have been doing in the Registered Apprenticeship arena,” said Sally Payne, Workforce Development Director. “We can now expand our reach to a 10-county area to begin registered apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships in both public and private sectors, with an emphasis on public safety entities,” Payne added.
“Missouri ranks as one of the top states in the nation for Registered Apprenticeships in all industries, this grant will help us focus on public entity apprenticeships to help recruit and train first responders, para-educators as well as other high-demand careers,” said Payne. “We hope to serve as a regional hub for public and private apprenticeships,” she added.
The counties included in the service area are Barry, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Lawrence, Polk, Stone, Taney and Webster . The grant will run through 2026.
