Springfield-Greene County Health’s Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) and the Greater Ozarks Regional Breastfeeding Coalition will be hosting the Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week event on Friday, Aug. 26.
The event will be from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Phelps Grove Park, 950 E. Bennett, and will celebrate breastfeeding mothers in our community and across the country.
Additional community partners of the event are Springfield-Greene County Library, CoxHealth injury prevention, Jordan Valley Community Health Center, Parents as Teachers, Kindermusik, and the Health Department’s NEST Partnership program.
Breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for most infants, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Breastfeeding provides a host of benefits to both infant and breastfeeding parent, including lowering risk of diseases like asthma, SIDS and ear infections for baby and ovarian cancer, breast cancer and type 2 diabetes for parent.
For anyone interested in attending the event should register for free at https://bit.ly/3dHDkUJ. The first 50 who register and attend will receive a swag bag.
