Department of Workforce Development Receives $5,000 grant from Walmart
The City of Springfield Department of Workforce Development, housed at the Missouri Job Center, has been awarded a $5,000 community and economic development grant from the Walmart Community Grant program. The money was received from Walmart Store #2221 on East Independence.
“We are grateful to Walmart Store #2221 and store manager Garrick Sims for their investment in this project,” said Sally Payne, Director of Workforce Development for the City of Springfield. Project CoRE (Construction, Rehabilitation, Education) seeks to provide classroom and hands-on construction training to young adults in at-risk situations. These individuals will have the opportunity to receive quality instruction by construction professionals and learn the basics through a supervised home renovation,” Payne added.
The completed property will be offered to individuals or families seeking home ownership. “Project CoRE provides affordable housing in historic Springfield neighborhoods, while increasing economic vitality, public safety, quality of place, and enhances education and workforce development,” Payne said.
The project is slated to begin in Spring 2023. For media requests, contact Katherine Trombetta at 417-880-6306 or [email protected]
