COVID-19 News

As the holiday season approaches, Greene County residents are encouraged by Springfield-Greene County Health to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses currently circulating. Being together with loved ones for the holidays are important to many of our residents but being closer together can also give more opportunity for viruses to spread.

Currently, cases of COVID-19 are low at a 7-day average of 28 as of Nov. 2. However, hospitalizations are high at nearly 40 individuals in Greene County hospitals as of Nov. 2.

A few ways we all can prepare for the upcoming holidays with family and friends is practicing good hygiene like washing your hands frequently, coughing into a tissue instead of your hands, and disinfecting surfaces often can help prevent getting someone else sick. Additionally, if you are experiencing COVID-19 or flu-related symptoms, stay home.

The best way for everyone to feel safe during respiratory illness season and the holidays is to get vaccinated. Vaccination against COVID-19 can help prevent severe illness and hospitalization. Flu vaccines are available to uninsured or underinsured adults at some COVID-19 clinics hosted by the Health Department which can be found below. Getting both your flu and COVID-19 vaccine in or around the same time is considered safe.

Individuals who receive a primary (first or second) dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or their first booster shot at a Health Department clinic will receive a $50 gift card while supplies last.

The Health Department and its Westside Public Health Center will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
